My (budget) house plans for 2020

My budget plans for updating my home in 2020, including some small decorating tweaks and adding some new accessories.

To say 2020 hasn't started off brilliantly is an understatement - I shared what's been going on here. But after taking a short break from all things blogging and social media, I'm itching to get back into a project - which has always been my go-to when times get tough.

In all honesty the dream is to move house this year. We've long since outgrown Dove Cottage (who knew the littlest person in the house would bring SO much stuff?!) and I'm more than ready for a new challenge. However in the meantime, I've got some ideas for little tweaks and fun (budget) projects to keep me going through 2020 until a new place finally arrives.

More mini-makes

I started my 'Weekend Mini-Make' series last summer, sharing a small easy project every week - one that takes just an hour or two to complete on a Sunday afternoon. These mini crafts have become a vital mental-health boost - there's nothing more therapeutic to me than being creative. You can have a look at my previous mini-makes here - all with full DIY tutorials and designed to be budget-friendly projects, perfect for beginners. In 2020 I've got plans for more mini-crafts such as decorations for the nursery and kitchen.

Kitchen revamp

After five long years I finally managed to make some small tweaks to the kitchen last year with a new worktop and sink, and a lick of paint on those 90's peach tiles. These changes made the world of difference, but I'd love to make some more this year too. I'm thinking possibly a new floor if I can find a budget way of improving it, and some new accessories such as bar stools - more of an investment as things like that can always be taken to a new house.

Big girls bedroom

Probably a bit overdue, but I want (well, need!) to transform little ladies nursery into a big girls room, complete with toddler bed and updated accessories. I still love her pink room, and don't want to spend too much in the way of decorating if we're planning on selling up soon, but a few changes such as some new accessories could bring this room a bit more up to date while we wait.

Living room

Probably the most overdue change of them all: I've been absolutely desperate to update our sofas for years now. The poor battered-up old things were at the top of my interior regrets list last year, and I'd love 2020 to be the year we FINALLY see the back of them. Although saying that I'd also want a new rug and curtains to go along with them, which is probably why I haven't yet opened that Pandora's box to be honest...

En-suite

The one remaining untouched (and unseen on the 'gram!) room in the whole house, I'd love to finally make some changes in here this year. It's small, cramped and FREEZING, which is why I avoid it at all costs. However, I've always thought a new floor (I laid this one below in the main bathroom last year, so I think know what I'm doing now), a lick of paint on the beige tiles, and some pretty shelves would make the world of difference. However, sorting this room was also on my list of 2019 house plans, so I'm not holding my breath here to be honest...
