2016: My Year in Review

A review of my year, featuring several room makeovers, and my plans for 2017, which include designing a gender neutral nursery

I don't know about you, but this year has felt like a bit of a whirlwind. It only seems like five minutes ago we were welcoming in the new year and I was making plans for 2016. The biggest resolution I had for the house was the makeover of our dumping ground of a spare bedroom, which I transformed into a home office.

I also wanted to overhaul our ensuite, which although didn't fully happen, we did manage to sort out some storage in there:

Aside from this, we also managed to sort out quite a few other areas of the house, including creating a gallery wall on our stairs, having a quick and cheap makeover in our main bathroom, and updating my decor for the autumn and Christmas seasons.

I've also been blogging about some of my inspiration behind the way I've decorated my home, including how I've tried to transform our fairly modern property into my dream vintage house, where I shop for home decor, and my tips for living with a small galley kitchen. This year I've also really enjoyed admiring some beautiful homes over on Instagram, my biggest source of inspiration, and launched my Friday Faves series - which I've been so touched to see so many lovely people playing along with each week.

2016 has seen some other big developments in our lives, with me turning the dreaded big 3-0 (I blogged about why I was no longer scared about this here), the fluffy ball of craziness that is our puppy Betsy bounded into our lives, and the news that we are expecting our first baby in the spring! I've already been thinking about the nursery (which will unfortunately have to take the place of my new home office!), and can't wait to share some of my plans with you in the new year! I've been pinning some ideas over on Pinterest, you can have a look at my nursery inspiration board here.

I'd also just like to take this opportunity to thank everybody that has taken the time to visit my blog over the past year. Writing this has become a bigger part of my life than I ever imagined it could be, and over 2016 it's turned from a mere hobby into a full-blown passion. I've really enjoyed getting to know and connecting with so many lovely people both here and over on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, sharing tips, advice and inspiration - and I can't wait to do even more of this throughout the year to come.

As ever, there are so many other projects I hope to work on and share with you throughout 2017, such as making over our conservatory-come-dining room area. I'd also absolutely love a bit of a kitchen revamp, however don't want to be too ambitious as I expect from May I'll be pretty tied up!

Happy new year, hope 2017 brings you health and happiness! What are your home decor resolutions for the coming year?

Thanks for reading,
Sam Xx
