Anybody else find they 'faff' with accessories a lot? I'm terrible for getting bored with how a space looks and moving everything round every so often. So in honor of that I thought I'd have a go at showing just how easy it is to change things up and refresh your home - with accessories you already own so no need to spend a penny either!
If you've got an ugly radiator you can't bear the look of, I'd absolutely recommend investing in a radiator cover. This one was from B&Q, and its such a cheap and easy way to update an ugly, unloved radiator (without spending a fortune on a traditional style one). Not only that, but its also a great way to create a focal point in a room - particularly one without a fireplace, like my lounge.
First up here's the before (babies toys kicked out of the way, obvs): I usually try and have a vase of fresh flowers in the centre there, and style the rest really simply with some candles.
1. All the (faux) greenery
I've got a complete obsession with house plants at the moment (or artificial ones, as I just can't keep them alive!) so I couldn't resist collecting them up from all over the house to create this first look. The planter makes the most of that awkward corner, and the pops of green definitely break up quite a plain area. I've added some touches of black with a mini-lantern and candlesticks to compliment the mirror.
2. Statement piece
Something I think this area is definitely crying out for is a big, bold statement piece to draw the eye - and a flower display is definitely an easy way to do this. I've gone with artificial again, using bargain hydrangeas and eucalyptus from Homesense. I've added candlesticks to bookend the radiator cover, and a basket with a soft throw adds texture and makes use of that lost corner.
3. Cosy corner
Finally I've gone with a 'whack all the candles on' look, and while I initially wasn't convinced I was going to like this one, I'm actually quite impressed with how cosy and pretty all the flickering candlelight looks. I think it would be even more effective on a dark winters night. Some fairy lights around the mirror would have finished this look off nicely, so will definitely be investing in some closer to Christmas time.
I've stuck with neutral tones to embrace the all-white look here, but the rug softens the edges and adds some texture and warmth.
Which one is your favourite look?

Where I got everything from
oh my thats such a stylish radiator cver and i love all 3 ways you have styled it that mirror also fits there beautifully x
ReplyDeleteThank you! It defiantly needed the cover, you should have seen it before!
DeleteI love the plants look, but come autumn, the candles would be my favourite!! I now just need to get a radiator cover as I don't have a focal point of the lounge either :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's so hard to style a room without a focal point isn't it! Thanks for reading!
DeleteHello, this mirror is a great addition on top of the radiator cover, it looks like there is a window there! I have a similar setting in a corridor but with a round mirror, so happy I got a radiator cover looks much better than before. My prefer styling is number 1 if in a corridor or number 3 if this is in the living room.
ReplyDeleteThank you Marlene! I'm so glad I went for the mirror, its really made a difference in such a small room! :)
