Living room updates for all budgets (from £50!)

Its time for another of my £50 room revamps, where I put together some budget updates for every room in the house. 

This time I'm focusing on the living room, where I feel it can often seem like you need to have a complete redecoration to make any difference. But I'm here to show you that some simple styling touches can make a big change to how you feel about a room that you spend so much time in. 

So keep reading for ideas on what you could do to revamp your bedroom, even if you've only got a few pounds to spend. Obviously I've picked a colour theme/style at random, but this is just to give you some ideas of what you can do with your budget.

Please note: I have priced up these items according to my rather modest-sized 2.5m x 4.7m living room, so bear that in mind if you're blessed with a bigger one! I've also not included labour costs for things like the laying of the floor, as they can vary greatly according to where you are in the country.

Living room budget: £50

You might think you can't do a lot with a budget of £50, but refreshing your walls or woodwork can make a huge difference to the look and feel of a room. While you're there, why not give your room a declutter and full deep clean - this is the easiest and cheapest thing you can do to any room, and you'll be surprised at the change it can make.

Popping some new covers on your existing cushions is a great way of changing up the look and introducing some new accent colours. Change the lampshade to a rattan one to add some texture, and add some new accessories through this bargain display. 

Living room budget: £250

If you've got a little more money to play with, how about updating your TV stand or sideboard? This one from IKEA will not only add some colour to the room, it's also great for hiding away all the toys/DVDs/clutter. Pop a large mirror on the wall to bounce light around and make the space look bigger and brighter. Finally, I had £10 left in the budget so chose this Autumnal throw, again from IKEA. Perfect for tying together a new colour scheme. 

Living room budget: £500

So you've got a bit of a bigger budget, and this is where you can really start to make some big changes. Changing your flooring will make a huge difference to the look and feel of a room, and this laminate floor is a much more budget-friendly way of achieving a high-end look. Add an armchair in a corner - how gorgeous is that mustard colour?! - and there's even money leftover in the budget for a side table, and a cosy candle to add some atmosphere. 

Living room budget: £1,000

Finally, if you've got £1,000 to spend on your living room then why not update your furniture with a new sofa and a bookcase? Popping a rug on a cold floor will instantly add a touch of warmth, and add blackout curtains to keep the warmth in during the winter. If you've got a blank, empty wall then add some framed prints or photos to create a gallery wall, and add a touch of personality through accessories.
