No-sew upholstered Armchair: DIY White Company dupe

So this story begins with me falling in love with an armchair from The White Company. But at £1,100 there was obviously no way that was ever going to happen. So I went about hacking my own, featuring a bargain lookalike chair from eBay and a couple of metres of teddy bear fabric. 

Here’s how I hacked my very own Scandi-style armchair for a fraction of the price - and the best part? There's no sewing needed at all. This is a really straightforward DIY, which can be easily done in just a few steps, and has a really effective outcome, I think. 

You will need: 

Chair - Mine was from eBay for £50

Fabric - I ordered two metres of this teddy bear fabric from an online store

Velcro strips - You can find this on Amazon

The chair comes as a flat pack, making it much easier to reupholster. The seat and back cushions come separately, and are covered with a thick, waxy material, which although is nice (and would be much sturdy with a little one and dog!), I thought would make the perfect base for something a bit cosier. 

Firstly I measured out two large squares of fabric, one big enough to fit all the way around the seat pad, and one for the back pad - it worked out as about one metre square for each pad. I then fitted the fabric to both of the cushions, before putting the chair together. 

To do this I started with the Velcro tape. The tape is really easy to use, you simply pull off the backing and stick down - that's all there is to it! I stuck one strip of tape to the back of the fabric, keeping close to the edges, and the other corresponding strip (make sure you use one soft and one rough so they stick to each other!) on the back of the seat pad. Then simply stick the two pieces of velcro together. I found this works really well as you can peel and re-stick if you make a mistake. 

Once the fabric was neatly attached to both cushions, I put the flat pack chair together. This was probably the most time consuming part of it all as there was some holes that needed to be cut into the fabric in order to fix some screws in. 

Once your chair is together, you'll then be able to spot any bits of loose fabric. I had a few underneath the seat pad, and around the back of the chair. I used my trusty staple gun to secure these in place, and make sure the back was looking neat - although you won't really see this as my chair is standing against a wall. 

And that's about it! See super easy, really effective, and best of all: no sewing needed!
