DIY bead Christmas garland {12 Crafts of Christmas}

How to make a simple scandi style wooden bead Christmas garland. Christmas craft project inspiration for your home.

Time for another easy-to-make Christmas craft today - and as always, they're all easy projects you can complete in a couple of hours and for just a few pennies. So far I've made an advent calendar, a snowball wreath, and paper Christmas trees.

Today I've made a scandi-style garland with wooden beads and woollen tassels. This one is really effective looking, and can be made as long as you like.

I'm really happy with the simplistic scandi-style look, and would make the perfect Christmas decoration for any home. Not only that, but you could make a few to hang around your home, of different lengths and with different sized beads.

You will need:

Wooden beads - I used 100 beads measuring 14mm in size, which I picked up from eBay

Wool for tassels - You can use as many colours as you like - I've kept it simple with grey and white

Scissors

Embroidery thread

Total cost: £5.53 - I had most of these things leftover from previous makes, so this cost me just the price of the beads

How to make:

Start by cutting a piece of embroidery thread long enough for wherever you want to hang your garland - mine is hanging from our radiator cover, however these garlands would also look great draped around your Christmas tree, or perhaps hung from your mantlepiece?

Tie a double knot at the end of the thread and start stringing your beads on. Mine was long enough for 100 beads to fit perfectly. Once you're all done, tie another knot at the other end of the garland to prevent the beads falling off.

Then make some woollen tassels to add to your garland. These are one of my favourite things to make as they're super easy but really effective - simply wrap wool round and round a rectangle shaped item or piece of cardboard, before slipping the wool off the item, and wrapping another piece of wool around the top to secure. Snip the ends to create a tassel (full step-by-step tutorial on making tassels can be found here)

I went for five tassels in white and grey to add to the simple scandi-look of this garland. Finally, tie the end of each tassel onto the thread of your garland. To keep it looking symmetrical, I placed one tassel every 25 beads along.

And you're all done! Simply hang your garland up, or drape around your tree. There's loads of ways you could personalise this craft too - how about adding some pom poms instead of tassels, or sprigs of greenery like mistletoe? I think this can definitely be recreated for different seasons too - wouldn't this look cute some pretty Autumnal leaves in place of the tassels?!
