It’s something that can often be overlooked when renovating a home, but choosing the right front door for your home is a big decision. The right choice can add security, save energy and importantly ensure your home gives the right first impression. It’s the first thing a visitor will see after all.

But where to start? Making the right choice can feel overwhelming, so here’s some things you should think about before boosting your properties curb appeal, and plumping for your beautiful new entranceway.

Choosing the right material
It’s a good idea to start with the material your door will be made of. Kloeber doors are made from either timber or aluminum. Engineered timber, such as the one pictured below, isn’t just suited to a traditional home, and there’s no worries about warping or shrinking. Aluminum looks great on a contemporary home (or to simply give any property a more modern twist!), and is just as durable as timber – with no rust or peeling guaranteed. If you’re worried about keeping the heat in, both materials are highly-insulated, so great, energy-efficient choices.

Choosing the right colour

Making sure you’ve got the right colour is another big choice – pick a shade that elevates the look of your home, providing the perfect final touch rather than detracting from it. Think about your existing window frames too, and how they will look alongside the door frame you choose. A door such as the Kloeber KlassicFront Timber or FunkyFront in either timber or aluminum is even available in dual colour, meaning you can fully match your decor with a different coloured inside.

Not sure which colour to go for? Pastel shades can be a great way of adding some traditional countryside charm to a property – the lilac KlassicFront door below is a great example of this. Whilst monochrome shades, such as charcoal grey or black, or even a pop of bold colour can add a sleek sophistication to a more modern home. The orange FunkyFront door below in a bright shade works so well against the simple monochrome front.

Choosing the style

Whilst it's easy to get carried away with so much choice available, its important to stay authentic and choose a style that will suit your home. If you’re the owner of a period property, or even a more modern one designed in a traditional style, then Kloeber’s Klassicfront door (below right) is great for maintaining that look – how perfect does it look here alongside the classic pillars?

A more contemporary home will favour the Funkyfront look (below left) - minimalistic, sleek and modern in style. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly option, the Euro FunkyFront style is for you – with the same security and energy-efficiency. Both styles are made to measure, fully customisable, and in a huge range of colours

Consider lighting

If you struggle with lighting in your home, then adding some glazing either side of your door can be a great option to combat this, shedding some all-important natural light into a dimly lit hallway. Adding a window in your door, or sidelights either side can look really effective, and even make the front of a home look bigger, drawing the eye outwards.

Sustainability

It’s also important to consider sustainability, and the impact your choice of door will have on our planet. Kloeber is a carbon-neutral company, dedicated to supplying sustainable doors, whichever style you choose. FSC engineered timber is not only sourced in a sustainable way, it also offers a low U-value, meaning it is highly energy-efficient, and keeps heat from escaping your home. Meanwhile, an aluminium door is fully recyclable.

Upkeep costs

You don’t want to worry about your new door needing repainting or even replacing in the near future, another reason for choosing your material wisely. Kloeber timber doors are painted with a multi-coat microporous paint system, guaranteeing no need to repaint for years to come. Whilst their aluminum doors are powder coated, meaning they won't rust or peel. One less thing to worry about when investing in your new entranceway.

Visualise your new door

Finally, its a good idea to make sure to check your dream door looks perfect in your home, to avoid any surprises on installation day. Kloeber’s interactive door design tool is available for the FunkyFront and KlassicFront designs, meaning you can visualise what your door will look like before ordering, always important when selecting something so fully-bespoke.

I couldn’t resist having a go myself with a dream front door - how gorgeous is this look? I’ve chosen the RAL colour ‘Silk Grey’ contrasting against a dark ‘Olive Drab’ frame - definitely going on the wish-list for a future home.
