Gender Neutral Nursery: An Update

Gender neutral nursery room for a new baby boy or girl, in colour scheme grey and yellow featuring handmade accessories and interiors

A while ago I blogged about my ideas for our nursery, planning to go with a grey and yellow colour scheme as we don't know whether this room's inhabitant is a boy or a girl.

Well, its FINALLY time for an update - however a bit of a disclaimer is in order: this room has proven to be a bit of a nightmare, and is not finished at all. My original plan was to stick to the colour scheme, adding some more gender-specific touches once the baby was born. However, I've come to realise this is actually quite difficult to do - I haven't wanted to buy lots of beautiful decorations only to want to change them once little one comes along, and therefore I've struggled to get the room to a place where I feel its 'done'. I've also been working on quite a tight budget, so (as I'm sure you'll spot!) have made a lot of the decorations you see here.
Anyway, without further ado, here's how the room is looking now, with info on where I got everything! The cot is from IKEA, with cushions from Mama & Papas and Laura Ashley. The basket, where I'm currently storing blankets is also from IKEA, and I made some pom poms to attach to it. The drapes are also a bargain IKEA find, and the blind is from Dunelm..

Another IKEA bargain buy are these shelves, which I've styled with a homemade pom pom garland, clock from Laura Ashley, elephant toy from Jellycat, wooden elephant from Jojo Maman Bebe, Sophie the Giraffe teether, and the 'You Are My Greatest Adventure' print was handmade by @hart_at_home, who you can find over on Instagram. The booties were a gift, as was the Peter Rabbit gift tag.

I've jazzed this basic Dunelm blackout blind up a bit with a pom pom trim which I simply sewed on.

Yet another IKEA bargain buy (these shelves are actually spice racks and were £3 each!), to which I've added a lick of paint. I really wanted to create a 'reading corner' here, featuring some of my favourite books from when I was little (who doesn't love a bit of 'Cops & Robbers'?!), so hope to add to this in time - once the baby can actually understand what a book is, of course!

I made these felt rainclouds, and the garland is from thismodernlife.co.uk.

Fox prints and hanging frames from desenio.co.uk.

I can't wait to add to this room once we know baby's gender, I must have about 50 things bookmarked on my phone that I'm desperate to order...

Thanks for reading,
Sam Xx
