My daughter is still only 14 months old, but has already had two different bedrooms, which you might think is quite excessive, but I have my reasons! I originally put her in our smallest spare room, creating a beautiful gender neutral nursery. However, after she was born (and accumulated a LOT of stuff), I quickly realised I'd made a mistake, and switched her into our larger spare room, which obviously, gave me a great excuse for a makeover!
We already had this beautiful Laura Ashley wallpaper up in here (which you might remember was our guest room), so I used this to style a girly bedroom around - fit for a little princess!
My absolute favourite thing in this room (and the whole house, probably!) is this velvet cocktail-style armchair. It's ridiculously soft, and is the perfect size for this small room. I've styled it with pops of grey and yellow, inherited from the original version of the nursery. I think this makes the perfect little reading corner, and have up cycled some cheap IKEA spice racks as bookshelves - now home to some of my favourite books from when I was little. I also found this belly basket from IKEA, and jazzed it up with some handmade some pom poms (DIY tutorial on how I made them here).
I wanted to create a little play area in here, but had very little space left, so was really happy when I found this canopy on Amazon, which could literally be squeezed in the smallest of spaces! I've styled it with some cushions (which I actually collected up from around the house!) and some paper pom poms from Hobbycraft. You could also drape some fairy lights round here too, to create a cozy little space.
There's not really space for a changing table in here, so we simply use a changing mat on an IKEA chest of drawers, which works perfectly for us. I've popped some baskets on top to store nappies and wipes etc, as well as the table lamp I had in my bedroom as a girl - it's followed me around to university and all my homes since, so it feels really special for it to live in here now.
I filled another blank space above the cot with some handmade cloud and stork decorations, plus a sun from Stiff.
Finally I replaced the bog standard lampshade in here with this feather shade, which I think is the perfect thing to finish this room off. High ceilings throughout the house mean lampshades can often get 'lost', so it definitely needed more of a statement shade in here.
What do you think?
Thanks for reading,
Sam Xx
