DIY Plant Stand with Hobbycraft*

DIY scandi plant stand made from wooden dowells and wooden disc using things I picked up from Hobbycraft. Home decor DIY tutorial.

I’m sure this will come as no surprise, but I absolutely love making things. If I ever come across something I like my first thought always goes straight to – how could I recreate that myself?! So when Hobbycraft asked me if I’d like to make something for my home using their products I was over the moon and got straight to planning something that would spice up my very plain and boring hallway – a scandi-style plant stand.

This DIY is super quick and easy, and great in that you could make a few in different sizes to create a bit of a feature in your home.

Here’s what I used:
4x Wooden Dowels
2x Wooden discs (I used the discs from Hobbycraft’s DIY Clock – a perfect solution if, like me, you don’t have the tools needed to cut a piece of word into a circle shape)
White chalk paint
Some metal brackets and small screws I had laying around at home
Screwdriver
Pencil
Tape measure/ruler
2x Concrete plant pots

How I made the plant stand:
First things first I decided where I wanted the two shelves to go by trying out lots of different heights until I liked the way it looked. My top shelf is 8cm from the top of the dowels and the bottom shelf is 25cm from the bottom of the dowels (which are 91cm long). I then marked these measurements on all four dowels with pencil, and attached the metal brackets using a small screwdriver and the smallest screws I could find.

I then attached the wooden discs to the poles using the same small screws, but made sure to screw them from above – that way the point of the screws wasn’t visible.

Once the stand was altogether I painted the discs with two coats of white using chalk paint – perfect as you don’t need to prime or sand beforehand so this was a nice quick and easy job!

And you’re all done! How quick and simple was that?!

I’ve styled my stand with some plants in concrete pots, however you could add anything you like – perhaps a basket on the bottom to store bits and bobs, or even use as bathroom storage or as a mini-bedside table if you’re short on space?

The other cool thing about this project is its super easy to customise – Hobbycraft do a huge range of dowels in different lengths so you could make some smaller ones, or how about covering the shelves in marble contact paper to give a completely different look?

Let me know if you have a go at this mini-DIY – I’d love to have a look! Tag me over on Instagram @dove_cottage.
