Gardens are funny things aren't they? Ours spends about nine months of the year being ignored, and once the spring sunshine pops it head out, its all of a sudden all systems go.

So to get my garden summer-ready in one fell swoop, I've teamed up with one of my favourites for beautiful yet affordable homeware - Sainsbury's Home, to create an 'outdoor living room' - somewhere perfect for summer entertaining. Or just lounging around with a cocktail (more on that later!)

Want to create your own outdoor living room this summer? Here's five ways to bring the indoors outside - all on a budget, of course:

Comfort comes first
I think the key to getting summer-ready is to create somewhere comfortable where you'll actually want to spend time. If your garden furniture isn't as comfy as your sofa, add texture through cushions and throws.

Because, let's face it, you're probably going to need a throw outside on a British summer's evening, aren't you? I've gone with some of the beautiful boho-style cushions and throw from the Sainsbury's Home new Global Monochrome range - outdoor cushions can be stylish too!

Add a touch of nature
It probably goes without saying seeing as this is a garden, but bring some potted plants into your seating area to add a touch of nature. I must admit I've cheated here a little with some artificial plants (I can't keep things alive even outside!) but they're really great quality, and a really good size for the price.

I'm seriously in love with that macrame hanging plant pot - doesn't it look perfect on the fence there?! I'm already eyeing it up for the spare room once summer's over.

Light it up
Cosy lighting is key to creating a luxurious feel, particularly if you're planning on spending your evenings in the garden. I've strung up some festoon lights to create the ultimate cosy corner, and these are solar powered too so no need to worry about batteries or plugging them in!

Light some candles to add to the atmosphere - how beautiful is that lantern? And if the wind is playing havoc with your candlelit scene, why not try some LED candles?

Cover up
I'd love to really overhaul my garden at some point, as its obviously not the most attractive, however if you're on a budget like me why not use layers to hide some of the less-than-pretty parts of your patio.

I've popped an outdoor rug down to hide my ugly patio slabs, and this cute spotty tea towel, which comes in a set of three, is the perfect size to act as a runner, making more of a feature out of the boring coffee table.

Have your refreshments to hand
I mean, this is the most important one really isn't it?! There's nothing like sitting out on a warm evening enjoying a summery cocktail to make you feel like you're on holiday (the recipe for my absolute fave - a pornstar martini is below).

I've used this cute wooden tools caddy as a mini-bar cart - the perfect size for your cocktail glasses, drinks and cutlery. I'm also a sucker of anything gold at the moment - how lovely is this ice bucket?!

  1. Thanks for sharing with us, Overhead lighting is a go-to option in many spaces, but it's often not enough. If you omit task lighting, like floor lamps and table lamps, If you want to know more, Please check out here : https://www.claxy.com/t/farmhouse-pendant-lights/
