Interior trends for 2022 you can embrace in your home (on a budget!)

Budget home decor inspiration featuring the latest interior trends for 2022

Interior trends come and go like fashion, and while, like me, you might want to keep up to date as much with them, it can be tough to work them into your home without regularly renovating, and as a result spending a fortune.

So here's some budget-friendly ways you can adapt the big trends for 2022 into your home, including my pick of items available on the high street, and some ideas for DIY-ing your own on-trend decor.

Interior trend 1: Lilac
A colour I'm absolutely obsessed with, lilac is everywhere at the moment within fashion. It's such a beautiful, fresh shade so makes total sense that the world of interiors is adopting it for Spring too.

Budget DIY idea: Swap out cushions

One of the easiest ways of incorporating a colour into a space without redecorating - add some soft furnishings such as cushions, rug or a throw onto your sofa. That way you'll get the colour pop you're craving without spending a fortune - and you can always change the cushion covers next time you fall in love with another shade.

Interior trend 2: Glass furniture
A bit of a throwback trend that's seeing a resurgence. I’ve been seeing more and more glass furniture everywhere lately, particularly tables and desks cropping up all over the place.

Interior trend 3: Concrete
A trend that cropped up last year, I’ve been seeing more and more items with concrete finishes. From tiles to transform your bathroom, to decor items and lighting, this is a really easy trend to adopt into your home. Not only that, but because this look to so simple in nature, it’s perfect to style any colours/textures easily around.

Budget DIY idea: Swap cupboard doors for concrete-effect
A really simple way of updating a piece of furniture you no longer love - you can buy replacement doors and drawer fronts in different shades/finishes from places such as IKEA.

Interior trend 4: Mustard
Another really bang-on trend that's showing no signs of slowing down. This beautiful, vibrant shade will brighten up any space - and is another really great colour to use in 'pops', through lighting, soft furnishings or furniture. How perfectly does is work against the bold blue in this kitchen?

Budget DIY idea: Colour blocking
Add a colour block somewhere in your home, I did this in 2020 in my spare room turned working from home office, and still completely in love with this space. You can learn exactly how to colour block on this post here

Interior trend 5: Waves & circles
Another one that we started to see lots of last year, waved shapes are going to be huge in furniture and accessories in 2022. How beautiful is that bed on the right? A fabric-covered headboard is the perfect way to soften a space too, and create an eye-catching feature.

Budget DIY idea: Colour blocking
Want to add a on-trend headboard to your bed? Why not DIY your own using some mdf, foam, material and a staple gun. I did this in our spare room a couple of years ago for £40 - and its so much easier than you think! Full DIY tutorial is here, and as long as you've got access to some power tools, it shouldn't be too tough to cut the mdf into a semi-circle to recreate the beautiful headboard above.

Interior trend 6: Red Earth
Another shade that's set to continue being big this year is terracotta. A beautiful bold tone, that will breathe life into any room, you don't have to redecorate to welcome it into your home - there's lots of different ways of adding this shade into any space, through decor.
