It’s no secret that when a baby arrives, they bring a LOT of stuff with them. But if space in their bedroom is at a premium, it can feel really overwhelming working out where to store it all.
In my sons nursery we only have space for a cot, chair and one piece of furniture, meaning I've had to get creative with squeezing everything in, whilst still making sure its uncluttered and looks stylish.
So here’s 14 clever storage solutions to make the most of limited space in your babies nursery...
Under the drawers
Same thing for under any furniture such as a chest of drawers or changing table, for example, use all the space you have. Even if you only have a few inches of space, you can still squeeze some books or a couple of board games under there.
Drawer dividers
Make the most of the space you have in your drawers by using dividers, meaning you can keep clothes neatly organised. I've recently added extendable dividers to my sons drawers, which has allowed me to squeeze more bits in them.
Thin shelves for books
We've always had more books than we've got room for, so adding some small shelves gives much-needed extra storage space. I've used shallow picture rails and even a spice rack to display books in both my children’s rooms.
Wall-mounted bookshelf
If you still need more book storage, a wall-mounted bookshelf will give you extra space without using up any precious floor space. The nice thing about these is that you display books facing outwards, meaning your little ones can see and easily choose their own books to read.
Upside down clothes rail
Speaking of spice racks, in my sons room, I've added another rack mounted upside down, which adds additional (and vital!) clothes storage.Peg rail for clothes
Add a peg rail to your wall for even more clothes storage. Ours sits underneath a slim shelf, and is a really nice way of displaying special outfits, as well as toys and accessories.
Play mat turned toy storage
Using a two-in-one play mat come storage bag means you can scoop up all the toys at the end of the day, and quickly store inside the bag. Hanging the bag off the back of your door will save even more floor space.
Over/behind door hooks
Make the most of the space on the back of the door by adding hooks. I hang hooded baby towels on the back of ours, but this would be a great place for storing coats, jackets and dressing gowns too.
Baskets for toys
Toy storage has always been a struggle in our home - I've previously shared some different ways in how I tackle this here.
My favourite way to store toys is in baskets though, particularly ones with lids, which mean you can hide stuff away as much as possible. A recent addition to both kids rooms is this beautiful scalloped basket, which has a flat top meaning I can even store even more bits on top.
Furniture with hidden storage
My go-to all over the house, I always choose furniture with hidden storage in. For example, I’ve never bothered with a changing table - instead I’ve gone with a chest of drawers and placed a changing mat on top. This way our furniture doubles up its purpose, stores more bits, and will last for years to come.
Another great example is my daughters bedside table - I've chosen a deep locker-style cabinet which holds so much more stuff than a regular bedside drawer.
Extendable toddler bed
A genius solution for any toddler or child’s room is an extendable bed that grows with them. Ours is from Ikea, and extends to two bigger sizes up to a single bed, meaning we were able to save money, and make the most of the space in the bedroom for as long as possible.
Hang baskets on the wall
Pop some baskets up on the wall to store even more bits - I currently have this small basket from H&M hanging next to my daughters dress-up bits for all her accessories.
Nappy caddy
A lifesaver in the newborn days, we still have one nappy caddy upstairs and another one downstairs. Having all the nappy change bits close to hand is vitally important when you’re wrestling with a wriggly toddler!
Keeping all the wipes/nappies etc together in one space will make your surfaces look much clearer and bigger. We also keep medicines such as Calpol and teething gel in ours.
What ways have you used to make the most of your space?

Sam Xx
