Weekend Mini-Make: Paper Easter Decorations

How to make Easter paper decorations in the shape of an Easter egg, perfect for decorating your home for spring, or for creating a pretty seasonal table setting. DIY tutorial craft perfect for when you're stuck inside at home on lockdown.

I'm back with another Weekend Mini-Make: a quick craft you can complete over the weekend for less than a tenner. And even better than that, all my mini-makes are designed to be something beginners can try their hand at, whilst also being a relaxing, well-being boost. As I've mentioned before, I regularly turn to DIY and crafting when times get hard, so for me, having a creative outlet has become a vital part of my everyday life. I hope that these simple, cheap crafting ideas will inspire others to have a go, and see if it can make big changes in their life too.

This week I'm turning my hand to some Easter decorations. I had big plans to create something really special for my Easter table this year, however what with the lockdown we're currently experiencing I wasn't able to get out and about to find the supplies I needed. However, I thought this would be a great opportunity to decorate up using just things I could find laying around the house - meaning, not only is this a no waste DIY, its cost me absolutely nothing at all to make. I call that a win win.

So I've made these cute paper decorations using some coloured card I had leftover from a previous DIY. And a great thing about this Mini-Make is its really easily adaptable to all occasions - so simply change the egg shape to perhaps a bell for Christmas time, or how about a pumpkin for Halloween? The possibilities really are endless with this one.

You will need:

Coloured card - I've used three different pastel colours, and my card is fairly thick cardstock, however any type of card would work well for this.

Embroidery thread - I used some I had in my craft box, you only need around 20 cm for each egg though.

Glue - I used simple PVA glue

Template for the egg shape - I used a wooden toy egg that my daughter had, however if you can't find anything the right size, I've included a template below for you to print out and select the size you'd prefer

Scissors & pencil

Total cost: £0 - I had all these things already leftover from previous makes, so this one cost me a grand total of nothing!

How to make:

First up draw around your egg template onto the coloured card. I used 12 cut-outs for one egg. Once you've cut them out fold them directly in half.

Now to start sticking. Apply three dots of glue along the fold on the outside of the card, and stick the next piece of card to it. Continue all the way around until you form a circular shape. Before sticking the final two sides of your egg together, apply a layer of glue to the inside 'core', and stick a small, looped length of thread into it. Hold for a few seconds to make sure its stuck firm, and then glue the two sides together to finish it off.

Give them a couple of hours to dry off completely, and you're ready to hang them! How simple was that? I've hung them off my twig tree to create an Easter-themed display, however you can use them however you wish.
