Gender Neutral Nursery: An Update

Gender neutral nursery room for a new baby boy or girl, in colour scheme grey and yellow featuring handmade accessories and interiors

A while ago I blogged about my ideas for our nursery, planning to go with a grey and yellow colour scheme as we don't know whether this room's inhabitant is a boy or a girl.

Well, its FINALLY time for an update - however a bit of a disclaimer is in order: this room has proven to be a bit of a nightmare, and is not finished at all. My original plan was to stick to the colour scheme, adding some more gender-specific touches once the baby was born. However, I've come to realise this is actually quite difficult to do - I haven't wanted to buy lots of beautiful decorations only to want to change them once little one comes along, and therefore I've struggled to get the room to a place where I feel its 'done'. I've also been working on quite a tight budget, so (as I'm sure you'll spot!) have made a lot of the decorations you see here.

Five cool kitchen design ideas you may not have thought of

I’ve been thinking a lot about my dream kitchen recently (I blogged previously about my plans for some small updates to my home), and while a full refresh is still a pipe dream at the moment, there’s no harm in doing a little research is there?! I’ve stumbled across so many inspirational kitchens, and thought I’d share some cool design ideas I hadn’t previously thought of - which can all add a bit of character and uniqueness to your kitchen.

Room tour: Spare bedroom

Room tour of my feminine pink spare bedroom with grey and gold interiors and floral decor

When we moved into our home, I knew I wanted to turn the rather unloved Barbie-pink spare room into a calming, feminine guest room. Seeing as this is the only real space in the house just for me, I really went for a feminine rose pink/grey theme, adding hints of gold here and there. It's taken a long time to get 'just right', however I'm finally there (I think!) - so thought now would be a good time to reveal the full room in a bit of a room tour.

What to do when you're bored of everything in your home

Easy home upgrades you can make to your house cheaply, quickly and on a budget when you want to refresh your interiors and decor.

It could just be down to nesting hitting me hard, but the title says it all really - is it just me or do other people go through stages of loving the way you've styled your home, and feeling fed up with everything in it? But while ripping everything out and starting again would be a bit extreme (and definitely giving my husband grounds for divorce), there are less drastic things you can do - so I thought I'd share my plans for some small tweaks to freshen things up a bit.

I'm so desperate for a bit of sun that I'm already dreaming of summer desserts - hence why I just had to have a go at this cake today! I've used raspberries, but you could easily use strawberries, blackberries, blackcurrants, or even a mixture of all your favourites!

Keeping your home clean and tidy (& stylish!) with pets

Keeping your home clean and tidy with pets from dovecottageblog.com

Last year we welcomed the bundle of joy/mess/general insanity that is Betsy our Maltese-Poodle cross puppy. Whilst I've always wanted a fur baby of our own, I'm not too ashamed to admit that the affect a pet might have on our home (and my borderline OCD-level of cleanliness) worried me. However, while we've had our fair share of doggy-diarrhoea-on-my-favourite-rug incidents, I think (or I hope) I've managed to keep my home looking fairly neat and tidy, despite the inevitable whirlwind of mess and energy an animal brings.
