13 things you can do to transform a room in half an hour

Simple, quick things to update or transform a room in your home in minutes. From gallery walls to decluttering, adding soft furnishings and plants.

Hands up if you want to make changes to your home but just can't find the time? This is something I struggle with a lot - I constantly come up with new ideas and projects I want to work on, but what with juggling a 9-5 job and a pre-schooler its not easy to find the time.

Well I'm here to tell you that even with only a few minutes spare, you can make a huge difference to your home. So keep reading for ideas of projects you can do in your lunch break (perfect while we're working from home!) to transform any room.

Add a mini gallery wall
I must admit, this is my go-to at the moment - filling a blank, boring space with some colour or personality using prints or photos. I love how a gallery wall, however big, can feel like an extension of the decor and theme in a room. And even better, its a quick and cheap way of updating a space. Not sure where to start with a gallery wall? I've previously shared layout ideas for different spaces in your home, complete with printable templates and inspiration over on this post here

Touch up paintwork/woodwork
A really simple one - but the type of thing that can make the world of difference to the feel of a room. Get the paint out and touch up the walls/woodwork in a room. If your home is anything like ours, just getting rid of all the sticky fingers and scuffs makes the walls look brand new...

Update soft furnishings
I've mentioned this before, but I like to update my cushion covers seasonally. I have some pastel pink velvet ones perfect for Spring/Summer, and some brown linen ones for Autumn/Winter. Adding complimentary soft furnishings such as a cosy throw will pull together the look and theme of a room.

Declutter & organise
One of the biggest things you can do to revamp a room - I've shared lots of posts on decluttering before, as its something I have to do regularly living in a small home. Look into how you're storing items in a room, for example toys or books - using hidden storage (think within your furniture - all the ways I achieve this in my home are over on this post hereor stylish storage, within baskets or crates for example, that compliments your decor.

Add a natural touch
Bringing the outside in can add a touch of colour and life to any room. I'm currently obsessed with the trend for dried flowers, and have a number of bouquets/pampas stems dotted around the place - I find these not only add character and personality, but texture to a space too.

Add a wall hanging onto a blank wall
Stuck with what to do with a blank wall, but not keen on adding prints or shelves? Why not go for a wall hanging? You don't have to spend a fortune either - hanging a rug, or even a pretty bath mat can make an attractive addition to any room. I even made my own wall hanging from an old bath mat - find out exactly how to do this here.

Reorganise your bookcase
Simply rearranging your books according to colour or size, can make a space that can often look cluttered appear neater and more stylish. I've done this in my daughter's bedroom, and created more of a feature out of what could have been a messy area.

Replace handles on cupboards
The impact this can have on a space isn 't to be underestimated - you can pick up handles cheaply from hardware stores, or Amazon and can really make an impact, particularly in a kitchen, for example. However, I've also done this to refresh basic Ikea units and drawers, too add some personality.

Restyle your bedside tables
If your bedside tables are anything like mine, they're usually cluttered with books, a glass of water, hand cream etc. Having a simple tidy up and packing things away that don't need to be on show can make an area feel less cluttered, which is more likely to aid a better nights sleep. Add some small decor to your bedside, such as a candle, plant or pretty lamp, to create a small but styled display.

Add a statement mirror
I'm a big fan of a mirror in most of my rooms, as they can help make a space look bigger and brighter by reflecting light around a room, but create a feature in a space that might not have one. In my living room we don't have a focal point, so I've tried to create one using a radiator cover and large mirror - and have done something similar in my hallway.

Layer rugs
Struggling with an old/ugly floor that needs replacing? Hide with rugs  - I've previously written about choosing the perfect rug for your space here. Layering up rugs can be a really chic way of styling a space too.

Create a stylish vignette
One of my favourite quick-fixes is to 'shop my home' - simply meaning I rearrange decor from room to room to refresh and create new focuses. Repurpose items from elsewhere to create a new display or vignette on your coffee table or a sideboard. Choose colours that work well together and compliment the rest of your room, and don't forget to choose items of different heights and textures to create a visually-appealing display. For example, use a selection of books, a candle, a tall piece of decor such as a vase/candlestick - more simple tips on styling a space are over here

Add a pop of colour in your bathroom
Bathrooms can often feel cold and uninspiring - I know my bathroom suite (that desperately needs replacing) certainly does. To tackle this I've added pops of colour through accessories and plants, as well as texture to soften up the cold feel in here. Add a new bath mat and hang complimentary towels is the quickest and easiest way to do this.

What little things do you do when you want to quickly revamp a space?
