Dining room updates for all budgets (from £50!)

Its time for another of my £50 room revamps, where I put together some budget updates for every room in the house.

This time I'm focusing on the dining room, where I feel it can often seem like you need to have a complete redecoration to make any difference. But I'm here to show you that some simple styling touches can make a big change to how you feel about a room that you spend so much time in.

So keep reading for ideas on what you could do to revamp your dining space, even if you've only got a few pounds to spend. Obviously I've picked a colour theme/style at random, but this is just to give you some ideas of what you can do with your budget.

Please note: I have priced up these items according to my rather modest-sized 2.5m x 4.7m conservatory-come-dining room, so bear that in mind if you're blessed with a bigger one! I've also not included labour costs for things like the laying of the floor, as they can vary greatly according to where you are in the country.

Dining room budget: £50

Wall paint, £16, Wilko / Furniture paint, £10, Rust-oleum / Napkins, £3 per pair, Primark Home / Placemats, £3.50 each, IKEA / Runner, £4, IKEA

A budget of £50 might seem small, but there's lots of changes and improvements you can make to any room. Start by giving the room a deep clean and declutter - be brutal and get rid of anything you no longer love or need. This is something I do regularly in our home, lots of decluttering tips can be found on this post here. Repainting the walls will make the room feel fresher, and then add some new accessories, such as table mats, a runner and some napkins, to your dining table.

Dining room budget: £250

Cutlery, £9.99, H&M / Tablecloth, £12, IKEA / Glasses, £9 for set of 4, IKEA / Plates, £6 each, Marks & Spencer / Plant, £12.99, Homesense / Lerhamn dining table & chairs set, £196, IKEA

If you've got £250 to play with you could update your dining set, and add some more accessories. You don't have to spend a fortune to find some classy looking crockery, cutlery or table linen - how gorgeous are those bowls?! Finally, add a touch of nature with a plant or two.

Dining room budget: £500

Prints, £15 each, Abstract House / Candlesticks, £3 each, Wilko / Mirror, £115, Oliver Bonas / Shade, £13, IKEA / Bar cart, £169, Cuckooland / Rug, £95, Habitat / Cake stand, £20, H&M / Lamp, £20, George Home / Vase, £15, Marks & Spencer

A bigger budget of £500 means you can update some of the larger pieces in the room such as a rug and mirror. A bar cart is a fantastic way of displaying your glassware, and install a large light shade - I've got this shade in my home and absolutely love it - to create a statement lighting on a budget. Talking of lighting, a table lamp can add a touch of cosiness and atmosphere. Finally, continue your theme through some artwork on your walls, and add some smaller accessories through candlesticks and a vase.

Dining room budget: £1,000

Flooring, £313.10, Luxury Flooring and Furnishings / Lighting, £199, Made.com / Artificial olive tree, £76.99, Wayfair / Chairs, £150 for pair, Habitat / Rudsta cabinet with built in lighting, £115, IKEA

Finally, if you've got a bigger budget you can make some huge changes to a dining room. I previously featured this gorgeous laminate flooring in my living room updates post, but thought it was perfect for this theme too. Replacing the flooring will instantly transform any space, and this is a great price for a classic-looking style. Add some all-important storage to display pretty crockery or glassware, and soften the look with some greenery - artificial for those like me, who can't keep anything alive. Popping some feature lighting over your dining table will add a luxe feel, and finally with the remainder of your budget you could even update the chairs around your table.

Which of these things would you love to do to update your dining room?

Thanks for reading,

Sam Xx
