10 genius storage solutions for small bathrooms

Storage solutions for small bathrooms. From a basket to shower caddy, towel rack to cleaning storage, clever storage solutions for a tiny bathroom

When space in your bathroom is at a premium it can be difficult to know where to store everything. As everywhere in my home, I’ve had to get creative with how things are stored.

With small children, our family bathroom needs to be practical with lots of storage, but also somewhere we can go for a relaxing soak at the end of a busy day, meaning it needs to be uncluttered too.

So here's 10 clever storage solutions to make the most of limited space in your bathroom...

Stackable storage boxes
I don’t have space for a dressing table in our home, meaning I need to keep all my toiletries, hair bits and make-up in the bathroom. Using storage like these transparent stackable boxes are invaluable as it means I can utilise all the space on my deep windowsill.

Mine are from B&M, and they hold almost everything in my bathroom, from make-up to face wipes, medicine to toothpaste.

Small canisters
On the ladder shelf I’ve got a couple of smaller storage containers which are home to hair clips and bands. These are just some budget-friendly ceramic canisters from Primark Home, that cost £3 each.

Ladder shelf with lidded baskets
One of my most favourite storage solutions in our home, this slim ladder shelf from IKEA makes the most of the wasted floor space between the bathtub and door.

Not only does it compliment the rest of the room well, it also means I can store lots more bits in an easily accessible way. I’ve added some lidded baskets, which are home to larger toiletries like deodorants, and stack toilet rolls here too.

Re-use old candle holders
Got a pretty candle in a glass jar? Why not clean it out when you've used it up and repurpose the jar for extra storage? I store cotton buds in mine, but these make the perfect size for lots of items such as make-up wipes or even hair accessories.

Small storage box beside toilet

Another great solution to make the most of every inch of floor space - I have a small storage box that sits tucked away between the toilet and the wall.

In here I keep cleaning essentials like sponges, wipes and dusters. Anything dangerous like bleach is kept up high in a wall cabinet though, away from little fingers.

Under sink cabinet

If you’ve got the space you could add some more vital storage with an under sink cabinet. These are free-standing, fit neatly around the sink pedestal, and are available from lots of hardware and furniture stores.

I've found a selection of under sink units for all budgets and styles, and the best thing about these is they can make your sink area look much fancier too...

Basket for toys
It’s always good to have somewhere to hide away the plastic toys (a motto I've adopted across the whole house!) - so I’ve got a small basket that sits underneath the ladder shelf and is home to all our bath toys.

This works well because it hides things away, and is easy to hand at bath time. Better still its plastic lined so no need to dry the toys off before chucking them in!

Use the back of door
One of my favourite ways of making the most of any space (this works well in most rooms!) - pop some hooks onto the back of your door where for vital towel and dressing gown storage.

In our downstairs loo I go a step further and hang our mop and broom on the back of the door too - I simply use command hooks which are super strong, and can be easily removed.

Towel rack
Struggling to find somewhere to store all your bath towels?  Why not use a wall-mounted towel rack to store rolled up towels - ours lives in our downstairs loo and is a great space saver.

Suction wall storage
Make the most of shower wall space by using waterproof suction storage for your toiletries. You can usually pick these up fairly cheaply, and are a great way of storing products like shampoo and combs close to hand.
