When space in your kitchen is limited, it can be difficult to know where to store everything. I know too well that cupboards can very easily end up overflowing, and drawers are stuffed with utensils.

However, as everywhere in my home, I’ve had to get creative with how things are stored. Space is a premium in my small kitchen, but its been my mission over the past few years to get things in order, and create a system for storing everything we need.

My no.1 tip for getting any room organised is to give everything a home. That way things don’t end up dumped on sides/surfaces, and everyone living there can quickly and easily put things away.

Having clear surfaces/table tops etc will make things instantly look tidier. I promise this will make a huge difference to how tidy a space feels too (and this is coming from someone who gets overwhelmed just at the sight of clutter!)

So if you’re looking to get your kitchen organised too, here's 10 clever storage solutions to make the most of the space you have...

Use a rail for wall storage

Wall space can often be overlooked, so why not add a rail with hooks where you can hang items such as mugs and utensils? You can easily pick up rails and hooks for a few pounds, and this idea has the added benefit of filling blank space - showcase your favourite mugs to create a beautiful, but budget-friendly feature.

Turntables inside higher cupboards

If like me, you struggle to reach the back of high-up wall cupboards, a turntable can be a complete game changer. Dotting a few turntables about the kitchen, can allow you store lots more inside each cupboard - whilst also making things look much tidier. You can pick them up from just a few pounds in your local supermarket, too.

Organise your fridge space using tubs

Don't forget to make the most of the space inside your refrigerator too. Use budget storage such as transparent containers to sort everything into sections, keep things fresh and make it easy to see what you've got. I previously shared what I used to get my fridge into order here

Glass canisters for dried foods

My obsession with using glass canisters for storage began when I made over one of our kitchen cupboards into a pantry during lockdown. I've since organised all our cupboards using labelled glass canisters for dried foods, to keep things fresh and looking neat.

This doesn't have to cost a fortune either - all my storage containers are from budget-friendly places such as Asda, B&M and The Range.

Store cereal in airtight containers

Cardboard cereal boxes can be bulky and take up lots of valuable space inside cupboards, so decant your cornflakes into airtight cereal storage containers instead. Not only does this save space and look much neater than ripped cardboard, but it will keep your food fresher for longer too.

Hang cleaning items

One of the spaces that is really easy to overlook when it comes to storage and organisation, is under the kitchen sink. It can get messy under there super quickly, and it’s so tempting to just chuck the dustpan and brush inside and shut the door.

However, you can make the most of every inch of space by using the back of your cupboard doors.

Use command hooks* to hang cleaning items such as dustpan and brush, scrubbing brushes and duster. These hooks are really easy to remove, so rental friendly too!

Baskets & tea towels on hooks

Make the most of all of your wall space too by hanging hooks in wasted spaces such as behind the door. I've used some hooks here to hang tea towels, and I've also got a small basket here for other bits such as baby bibs and carrier bags.

Save floor space with hidden storage for bin

Another way you can save as much floor space as possible is by having your bin hidden away inside a cupboard. If you've got room to do this, it's a game changer. I've also added a shelf inside the cupboard for which to store bin bags and other items such as tin foil and sandwich bags.

Stackable storage under sink

Store other important under sink essentials like sponges, dusters, scouters etc in these stacked transparent boxes, again making everything really easy to find quickly. I love this idea so much, I’ve now replicated this storage system in my bathroom too.

Shelf dividers to double your storage

Desperate for more storage space inside your cupboards? Adding these genius shelf dividers can be the solution.

They work really well in enabling double the space inside each cupboard, meaning you can store everything in a much neater and easily accessible way - no need to stack mugs on top of each other!
