The Boo Basket they’ll actually use: How to create a cosy Autumn gift without the clutter

*This is a sponsored post*

I love the idea of a ‘Boo Basket’. Autumn is always a good excuse to embrace all things cosy - think candles, comfy blankets, hot drinks and dark evenings spent curled up on the sofa.

But as someone who lives in a small home, and is always battling to keep on top of clutter, there’s one thing that makes me hesitate: what are we supposed to do with all the items afterwards?

Because, as much as I love a seasonal gift, I’m also desperately trying to reduce the amount of stuff I have in our home, so want to put together a considered gift.

However the perfect Boo Basket isn’t one overflowing with things added for the sake of it. It should be a handful of carefully chosen treats to be used and enjoyed.

But luckily, putting this together doesn’t need to be tricky. And to prove this, I’ve headed to Very.com to put together two Boo Baskets to give as gifts this Autumn: one featuring gifts for her - perfect for a tired Mum friend. The other basket is filled with Halloween decorations - perfect for a home decor lover. Each contains four useful items that any recipient will love - no unnecessary clutter here!

The recipe for the perfect Boo Basket:

Tip: Choose a beautiful basket that will not only hold all your important items, but is also a gift itself and can also be re-used within their home afterwards.

1. Something cosy

Autumn is, of course, all about being cosy, so make sure to include something to ensure those darker evenings feel a little bit more special. Think fluffy socks, soft pyjamas, or a jumper they’ll live in over the coming months.

For my ‘Decor lover’ basket I’ve chosen a beautiful, warm bedspread. Featuring Autumnal colours, and perfect for hunkering down under once the nights draw in.

For my ‘Tired Mum’ basket I’ve gone for a cosy infused candle in the scent Vetivert, Eucalyptus and Sea Salt.

2. Something useful

My favourite category because it stops your basket becoming a collection of things that will end up shoved in a cupboard somewhere (something readers will know I'm very familiar with!)

Choose something they’ll genuinely use this season - perhaps a new mug, water bottle, book, or something for their home that they’ve been meaning to buy.

For my ‘Decor lover’ basket I’ve gone for a beautiful seasonal wreath to add a touch of Autumn to their front door. Even better, using faux flowers means it can be reused year after year.

For my ‘Tired Mum’ basket I’ve chosen some the perfect autumnal treat: an afternoon tea set featuring everything they'll need to wind down.

3. Something indulgent

Now for a touch of indulgence. Add something that feels like a treat - an item they might not necessarily buy for themselves. Think a beautiful candle, some sweet treats or something to make those long, dark evenings feel a bit more luxurious.

For my ‘decor lover’ basket I’ve added some cute pumpkin tea light holders. An easy way to add some cosy touch to any home.

For my ‘Tired Mum’ basket I’ve chosen for some pamper products with this Iconic gift set - ideal for giving her some all-important 'me time'.

4. Something personal

Finally, the item that turns your basket into a thoughtful gift.

Add something that reminds you of them. Maybe an item in their favourite colour, relating to their hobby, or something you know they'll love. You could even add a handwritten note explaining why you chose each item.

For my ‘Decor lover’ basket I’ve chosen some wooden toadstools - perfect for adding a touch of Autumn to your home, in their favourite style, without going too overboard. And once again, they can be brought out year after year.

For my ‘Tired Mum’ basket I’ve gone for a beautiful moon-shaped necklace, the perfect style for my celestial loving friend.

So there you have it: the perfect recipe for a thoughtful, seasonal gift. Choose a handful of things your loved one (or yourself!) will genuinely use and love, pop them together in a cute basket that can be re-used, add a personal touch, and you’ve got an autumnal pick-me-up anyone will appreciate - without creating a new pile of clutter.

Have you ever put together a Boo Basket? What did you include in yours?

Sam Xx
