Once Spring rolls around there are a number of things we need to be thinking about in our home. After a long winter some areas may be looking a bit rundown and in need of some extra TLC to get them back to their best. From sorting out the garden, to rethinking how you heat your home, there's a number of simple tasks you can you do to get your home ready for the warmer months.
Keep reading for seven simple things to do in your home this Spring...
Think about your heating
Spring/Summer is usually the time we like to switch off our mains or gas heating for the warmer season. However, as we know, the British weather doesn't always get the memo. There are, however, other options. Installing an electric radiator can be a great way of adding some warmth to a room when the temperatures drop in the evenings, for example, without needing to switch on your mains heating.
Not only that, but electric or infrared radiators are easy to install with no need for extra pipes, and therefore the perfect option for spaces such as conservatories, which get much more use during the Summer.

Have your boiler serviced
While the heating is off, now is the perfect time to get your boiler serviced and make sure everything is working well and ready to go once the cooler Autumn months come back around again. As part of this, you might also want to bleed any radiators which haven’t been working their best.
Get your garden Summer ready
Now is definitely the time to get your outside space ready for the warmer months. Think jet washing your patio or decking, repainting your fence and weeding your borders. It's not too late to plant flowering bulbs and vegetables in late Spring either - Alliums, Sunflowers and beans, amongst others, are best planted now when the soil is a bit warmer.
Decluttering/spring cleaning
I find there’s nothing quite like a Spring clean to make me feel better about my home - take the time to go through each room and declutter/deep clean each one in turn. I’ve previously shared lots of spring cleaning and decluttering tips - and you can even subscribe to my mailing list for a free monthly spring-cleaning challenge - as for me a tidy home equals a relaxed, tidy mind.
Clean out your guttering
A less-than glamorous one I'm afraid, but definitely essential. Throughout the winter months your guttering and drainpipes may have become clogged up with leaves and all sorts of gunk. Clearing them out will prevent any leaking or possible damage.
Repaint front door & outside
Following a particularly harsh winter, you might find your front door isn't looking as fresh as it was, especially if your door and window frames are older or made from wood. Give them repaint, and take this time to plant some bulbs into a hanging or window basket to add some real curb appeal.
Update your decor in Spring colours
Finally, it's always nice to refresh your soft furnishings for the new season. I always switch out my wintery-coloured sofa cushions for a fresher shade, adding some pastel tones through accessories such as candles.
