I've also been trying to adopt good habits in an attempt to prevent clutter in the first place (this is easier said than done, of course!). I previously shared simple habits to keep your home clutter-free here, but if you're trying to get on top of this in 2025, here's some things not to do.
Don't buy anything without knowing where it will live
Don’t ignore your drawers
3 things to stop doing in 2025 if you want a clutter-free home
Stop buying duplicates
Stop buying duplicates
When buying something new, always check you don't already have something similar beforehand. I'm terrible for doing this - recently I treated myself to some new eyeshadow brushes, only to discover a few days later I'd already had some identical in an old make-up bag.
The best way to prevent buying duplicates is give everything a home - the decluttering tip I live by. This means you can quickly and easily see what you've got (and therefore don’t need any more of!) If I'd had a proper 'home' for all my brushes, I would have known that I didn’t need any more.
Don't buy anything without knowing where it will live
On the same topic, I try not to buy items on a whim (this is a good tip for saving money too!) When I'm considering buying something, I always try to imagine exactly where it will live in our home. If it doesn't have an obvious place to go, I don't buy it.
This is particularly important for those non-essential things like decor, you know those pretty things can catch your eye but you probably don't need!
Don’t ignore your drawers
Finally, clear your drawers out regularly. It's so tempting just to throw stuff into a drawer, out of sight and forget about it. However, getting into the habit of going through your drawers regularly can make a huge difference. I try to sort mine out every couple of months, particularly the kids clothes.
A great way to make this less painful is having a 'system' inside your drawers. I use drawer organisers to organise items into categories. This way it only takes a few minutes for me to get everything back in order, and also means you can find things quickly too. No more wasting time hunting for the scissors!
If you're thinking of putting some storage systems in place this year (this is something that's made such a difference in my home!) I've got some inspiration on this post here.
How do you keep on top of clutter in your home?

Sam Xx
